WHAT: Release of new study on the economic contributions of the Gila and San Francisco Rivers to New Mexico’s Economy.
The “Economic Significance of Outdoor Recreation in the Gila and San Francisco River Watersheds,” conducted by Southwick Associates shows the economic benefits of water-related outdoor recreation in New Mexico’s Gila River and San Francisco Watersheds.
The independently-reviewed research, commissioned by The Pew Charitable Trusts, also examined the economic contributions that protecting portions of the Gila and San Francisco Rivers and their major tributaries as Wild and Scenic would have on surrounding communities.
The report comes as Congress considers designating the rivers as Wild and Scenic.
