Santa Fe - New Mexico Economic Development Department (NMEDD) Cabinet Secretary Jon Barela today announced a new program called the Local Economic Assistance and Development Support (LEADS) program designed to stimulate economic-base job growth. The program emphasizes the importance of recruitment, as well as retention/expansion and start-up activities. The funding provided through LEADS is intended to create jobs, develop the tax base, and provide incentives for business development.

Santa Fe - The New Mexico Economic Development Department's Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) board approved $3,200,305in funding at its January board meeting to eight companies that will create 716 jobs in New Mexico, averaging a wage of $18.96. The next JTIP board meeting will be April 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Central New Mexico Community College Workforce Training Center located at 5600 Eagle Rock Ave. NE in Albuquerque.

Santa Fe - Today, the New Mexico State Senate unanimously reconfirmed the appointment of Jon Barela as Cabinet Secretary for the Economic Development Department. Secretary Barela was appointed by Governor Susana Martinez in December 2010 to lead the job creation agency. Since taking office, private-sector job growth has increased, unemployment has decreased and international exports have hit all-time records, including more than doubling exports internationally and quadrupling exports to Mexico.
